Home Remedies To Reduce Redness On Face

Written By: admin - Mar• 13•12

Acne can cause redness, blemishes and scars. You may notice your face breaking out and you wish to get rid of it quickly. Medications and natural home remedies may take some time, particularly a few days, before being effective. That is one reason why many acne sufferers are disappointed and frustrated. There are actually several overnight home remedies for acne. What is more interesting about these natural remedies is that they are home-made, natural, least expensive and very effective. It would not hurt you at all, financially or physically, to try out any of these cheap overnight home remedies for acne.

1. Cut a tomato in half and rub on the skin. Leave on for fifteen minutes. Wash it off with water. This will reduce open pores and blackheads. This treatment is good particularly for oily skin.

2. Wash your face with salt-water or acne reducing soap. This will remove the oils from your face and help alleviate pimples. If you remove the oils each night before you sleep, the next morning your pimples will be less noticeable or cleared up overnight.

3. The use of toothpaste to immediately and effectively treat acne is not an urban myth. Apply toothpaste, not in gel form, to the skin affected by acne. Leave it there for about 10 minutes to 15 minutes and wash off. Remember not to put toothpaste on other skin parts as doing so may dry out and irritate the skin not affected by acne.

4. Take a piece of fresh garlic, peel off the skin carefully, cut it and rub gently on the acne making circular motions. You can even squeeze the garlic a bit and apply the juice on the affected area, leave it overnight. Garlic is a proven antibiotic and fights bacteria that causes pimples and acne.

5. Use egg whites to assist in removing the pimples from your face. You can purchase egg whites from a store or you can use the whole eggs in your refrigerator. Separate the white from the yoke by moving the yoke back and forth between the half shells. The whites will fall into the bowl. Discard the shells and yoke. Then use your finger to put the egg whites on each pimple. Leave overnight and wash your face in the morning with warm water.

6. Use apple cider vinegar to cure acne the natural way. To do so, just put apple cider vinegar on a cotton ball and apply it to the affected skin areas. white vinegar could replace apple cider vinegar for this purpose. It will not hurt trying out this simple and fast solution for the skin disorder. This is one of the best natural acne treatment.

7. Make a sandalwood paste with rose water and apply on the scars. Keep it overnight and wash it with cold water the next day. If you find that your skin becomes dry in the morning, leave the paste only for a few hours on your face or you may try adding some milk while making paste.

8. Make a paste of salt and olive oil and apply over the affected area, leave for sometime and rinse it off. Use ice or a cold pack on your face before heading to bed. The cold will reduce the swelling in your skin as well as the redness.

  8. QUESTION:
How can I reduce redness in my face?
My nose, cheeks, and the skin above my upper lip and below my nose constantly look like they're sunburned...but they aren't. A simple home remedy would be preferred, because I don't want to go out and buy something. I'm hoping for something that'll reduce the redness without having to put makeup on. My skin is sensitive...and that might be the cause...? Please help!

    • ANSWER:
Before trying out every medication, or skin products out there that may make it worst, since you don't know the real reason why, have a dermatologist take a look. It can or can not easily be treated, but don't use products unless you have her OK.

You're not like Sally or Jane down the street. What's good for them may be worst for you!

I have Discoid Lupus, and I too have sensitive skin (this one is caused from the sun and I've protected myself from the sun since age 9, but didn't see doctor until I'm in my 30's.

  9. QUESTION:
How can i reduce the redness on my face!!!!! please help me!!?
I cant believe this. I had such fair skin and all of the sudden its very red and blotchy around my nose and face! i have considered Rosacea, but im still in my lower teens and rosacea is for the ages of 30-60. Please dont send replys saying what the problem with my face is. If you are going to do that, i need a quick home remedy to clear the redness up.

    • ANSWER:
First off, it's a myth that you can not have rosacea if you're a teenager. My rosacea developed in my teen years, and I've lived with rosacea for over 3 decades now.

However, there are several reasons why a person might have facial redness. Here are just a few possibilities:
      - genetics
      - hormones
      - rosacea
      - hyperpyrexia
      - sun sensitivity
      - allergy
      - medication induced
      - lupus

For an accurate, professional diagnosis you would need to consult a certified dermatologist.

In the meantime, whether you have rosacea or not, there's certainly ways to keep some facial redness under control and less noticeable.

You can try increasing your omega 3's by taking supplements such as Evening Primrose Oil, fish oils, etc… and by eating walnuts, hazelnuts, pecans or macadamia nuts (if you're not allergic)
Fennel seeds, Flax seeds and Flax seed Oil supplements also act as anti-inflammatories. (reduce redness)
Try increasing your intake of vitamin D through supplements (1000 – 4000 IU/day) to aid in healthier skin and maintaining a healthier immune system.
Some people have had success using Turmeric orally or topically. (reduce redness & acne)

There are products you can purchase that are made specifically to reduce facial redness:
      - There is a face cream called ROSACURE which is an anti-redness cream formulated for rosacea-prone skin types.
      - Guinot has a face cream called RED LOGIC which claims to neutralize the appearance of red blood vessels.
      - LaTherapie Paris has a fortifying skin cream that is supposed to help soften high colour (reduce redness)

I know there are other brands and products that may be similar. You need to find the one that works best with your skin and your body chemistry.

It's up to you how much effort you want to put into caring for your health and your skin. Here are a few helpful, (and natural) hints for a better complexion for a lifetime:
      - avoid any products with alcohol (internally or externally)
      - only use gentle, alcohol-free cleansers on your face
      - avoid scented soaps and creams
      - have a daily facial cleansing routine (2x daily, morning & night. Do not scrub as this will irritate the skin)
      - try a dairy milk face-soak during a flare-up (as long as you're not allergic) The dairy milk helps to balance the natural PH of the skin
      - try using face lotion containing certified green algae (use lotions, not creams, as lotion is more gentle on the skin and absorbs more easily)
      - avoid extended periods in direct sun (use sunblock with 15 - 30 spf)
      - drink green tea, rose hip tea, and fennel tea (great antioxidants)
      - eat foods high in anti-oxidants; such as blueberries, cranberries, purple grapes, broccoli, etc..
      - avoid spicy foods and greasy foods
      - find out what your own personal food "triggers" are and avoid them so you can avoid flare-ups of redness and acne. (many people find food with histamines aggravate the redness)
      - avoid hot things. Hot showers & hot tubs, hot drinks (the heat will dilate blood vessels causing more redness)
      - try to get at least 7 - 8 hours of sleep each night (aids in the healing processes of the body)
      - try to cut down on stress (stress can magnify a multitude of conditions)

Facial redness can sometimes be a sign of dehydration. Drink more water and avoid all caffeine (coffee, tea, pop, etc..) and alcohol products. Both caffeine & alcohol can actually dehydrate your skin. Water re-hydrates from the inside out.

Of course you can try using make-up to cover up the redness, however, when it comes to make-up and rosacea, less is better, as your skin needs to breathe to heal.
If you use foundation, find a make-up primer that you apply to your face after cleansing & moisturizing, before applying your foundation. Use a good quality foundation, with a slight hint of green. It actually helps counteract the redness.
Avoid any foundations that have any pink, red or peach tone to them. Those tones will only magnify the existing redness.

Any eczema home remedies for the face?
Hey. School just started again so im extremely stressed...and since i have eczema, i dont break out when im stressed, but instead my face gets red eczema patches. On top of that the winter weather isnt helping haha. I would say my face is dry but the patches feel moist as sick as that sounds.

I was wondering if anybody knows any good, simply at home remedies that would, if not clear up my face, atleast reduce the spots/redness. Ive held myself back from introducing myself to new classmates b.c of this so i really want it to go away.

And btw, my face is extremely sensitive. For example, if i use one wrong lotion, my face is bad for a week.

Any educated suggestions would be great!
    Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
Mix apple cider vinegar with water. I ratio it at about 1/4-1/2 vinegar, depending on how strong you want it. Not even the strongest of zits can survive vinegar. Just dab a little bit on your problem area. Sometimes, to prevent further breakouts, I spread it all over, but don't do the full spread very often. Do it about once a week, but no more, or it could really dry out your skin. Do it before you go to bed and leave it all night. It may stink, but it works. :)

  23. QUESTION:
    Reduce redness in pimple?
I'm 12 years old, 6th grade and I am starting to have a few problem. I had a pimple and then I used aspirin to reduce the redness. Afterwards I put toothpaste, just a dab, on my pimple and the next day it's all red and its really noticeable. I think it burned me, it's not clogging my pores cuz I washed it with hot water and it's still red. I don't wear makeup cuz I'm too young and also, how to reduce the redness? If you give me a home remedy, that's even better. I already have Clearasil Ultra Face Wash and I have home remedies that you can give to me, but please don't tell me to put on makeup cuz it clogs my pores. Proactiv doesn't help either so please don't tell me anything cuz I'm not going to waste 20 dolars to get rid of a few pimples. Just please tell me how to get rid of this fast, maybe not overnight, but just FAST.

    • ANSWER:
First off let me tell you since you are just starting the long stages of acne. There aren't any home remedies.

Toothpaste isn't for acne - and it likely did burn you.

You have to use acne wash whichever brand you want to start to use. If it isn't proactiv then find something you think helps.
Besides a wash you need the toner (witch hazel) and acne cream to spot treat it.
Alcohol may help dry it up but it's going to take time and if the bacteria (puss) is still inside it will stay red -
try a warm compress acne wash, toner and spot treat it with cream.

Acne is tricky it's full of oil/bacteria and you need to use things made, tested for your face.
It takes time to settle on the right products.
      AM/PM without skipping a step.

      Good Luck

  26. QUESTION:
    At home acne Remedies?
Okay, so my acne was bad over he summer, so i started using cetaphil and natures cure pills/creme. They started working really well, but now, my face is starting to break out again. And I really dont know why because I havent worn makeup in about a week to try and prevent breakouts. Tonight i put honey on my face for about 15 minutes and it did make it softer.
So basically im wondering if anyone knows of any good acne remedies hat can get rid of acne quickly, reduce redness/inflamaion, and make skin softer. Thanks :)

    • ANSWER:
I've never tried it, but supposedly a mixture of crushed aspirin and just enough water to make it pasty works. Some people even use lemon juice or add honey to the mixture to help as well.

Boiling water, then steeping basil leaves, and applying the water to the acne is supposed to help.

Toothpaste does wonders to dry out the acne, and just moisturize afterwards :)

Mixing honey with sugar can also help.

And if you grind peppermint leaves to a paste with a mortar and pestle, you can rub the leaves on the affected area to reduce redness, and help swelling go down. :) Spearmint works too, but peppermint is better.

Use a skin moisturizer cream, the best one i use is Olay moisturizer cream. Or apply coconut oil on your face immediately if you have any. After a couple of days, your skin might be feeling a little dried and when it does, don't scratch it because it will feel like burning

  32. QUESTION:
    Aloe Vera home remedies?
I just read on a website that aloe vera can do all sorts of things like, reduce redness, reduce stretch marks, shrink pores, basically everything on this site ; http://thebeautybunny.com/15-beauty-uses-for-aloe-vera/
I was wondering is this stuff true AND does it matter if its in the bottle or right off the plant?
Can I use whats in the bottle on my face and for stretch marks and everything? Or do I need the actual plant for it to really work?
    Thanks for the answers!!!!!!

    • ANSWER:
Aloe Vera is an excellent natural remedy for soothing and healing burns, soothing itching, moisturizing skin, reducing redness and itchiness due to skin irritation.

The only uses on that page I'm not sure about are 1. As a skin brightener: Rub aloe vera on your face to decrease pigmentation and dark spots. and 9. Speed hair growth: Massage aloe vera into the scalp, leave in for 30 minutes and rinse. Aloe Vera is known to balance PH and stimulate the production of enzymes on your scalp which help with hair growth.

Also I find that cocoa butter works better for stretch marks.

I have a hugeee aloe plant so I use it for many things. My fiance` always keeps one in the kitchen too for emergency treatment of cuts and burns. I find that a bottled essential oil of aloe or "straight from the plant" works best but there are some good otc bottled gels for sunburns, etc that have aloe incorporated into them.

You don't have to hunt very hard if you decide that you want your own plant. They sell them in the plant section of most grocery or chain stores like tops and walmart. Mine grew very quickly and they're hardy. (I have a "black" green thumb! lol)

  33. QUESTION:
What is the best organic home remedy facial?

  34. QUESTION:
Is Baking soda (Bicarbonate of soda) a good home remedy for acne?
I've heard many people say that by using baking soda a.k.a bicarbonate of soda can help in reducing acne and exfoliating the skin. The question is, how often can I use it? I don't have that much pimples but I do have blemishes that would often make my face look red. Will baking soda reduce the redness? And after using it and using a cleanser do I still need to put acne cream on my pimples? Thanks.

    • ANSWER:
I used baking soda on acne several years ago and I loved it. It pulls all the dirt from pours and tightens them making skin look and feel smooth and clean.
It does tend to dry out your face, and your skin might feel sensitive afterwards. Follow with a light moisturizer.

Add some water to the baking soda and rub onto face, let it sit and dry a little, then rinse.

  35. QUESTION:
How can I clear problem pimples fast?
I am going on a cruise in 3 days and I've had 3 pimples pop up over the last couple days. What are simple ways to reduce redness a lot or even cure my acne before i leave on my trip. I can't go out and buy anything so it has to be something I can just find at home. thanks xxx btw any natural face masks or remedies or anything simple would really help

    • ANSWER:
You should drink a lot of water to hydrate your skin and promote faster healing. Try to dry out your pimples with toothpaste or if you have a clay mask at home. That will draw the oils out faster. Wash your face morning and night and try not to eat to much salty or sugary foods.

Drinking a lot of water really does a lot for your complexion. Last..try not to stress. Do some yoga or meditating to clear your mind. Or you can take a nice bubble baath. Stress is a big cause for breaking out.

  36. QUESTION:
How to get rid of facial redness?
So, I've been having a lot of problems lately with my skin, but the one I'm most ticked off about, is the redness in my face. It's mostly on the sides of my nose, and is extremely sensitive, irritated, and tight/uncomfortable. It's not, however, caused by rosacea or sunburns, etc, but was previously a wound. I'm pretty sure it would have healed alright, but I, being the smart person I was, kept on picking the peeling skin off as it tried to heal itself. So therefore, the wound never got a chance to really heal, and now that it has, it's embarrassingly red [and extremely noticeable]. I've already tried some home remedies, and Eucerin products, but they, unfortunately did not help to reduce the redness. I'm considering the PURPOSE line [consisting of a moisturizer and gentle cleanser] right now, but I'm not sure. I need help! ;D

    Thank you!

Removing dead skin off of face?
Hi, I have a good bit of black heads around and on my nose. I seem to do everything from home remedies to cleansers and wash my face twice daily. However nothing has worked to get rid of them. I recently moved up north to west virginia from florida and my skin is drying out tremendously but its only noticeable on my face. my pimples i do get and old blemishes are geting very red and random patches of skin are peeling off and turning red. It seems that all of my blackheads are under a clear skin layer that can sometimes peel off. I dont think the stuff i do works because of this dead or dry clear skin layer that you cant really notice, but its clogging the pores and keeping the dirt trapped. Can anyone help get rid of this layer and reduce the redness so my skin can breathe?
the skin layer on and around my nose sort of acts like a blanket, laying over the fresh skin.

  42. QUESTION:
    Skin burn HELP PLEASE~!!?
Thank you. I always do home remedies and a few days ago, I did a home remedy using apple cider vinegar. I have done it before but something went wrong this time. My face turned red and got irritated. Perhaps I didn't dilute the solution enough or maybe it went bad. Either way, I panicked. My skin is usually good to me but this time it didn't. Two days after, right now, I tried to moisturize my skin using yolk, honey and olive oil. I suddenly felt my face becoming irratated and red so I washed my face and splashed cold green tea on my face to reduce the redness. Just like what I did when my face become red from the apple cider vinegar solution. I think I also exfoliated a bit too roughly. What does this mean? Is my skin going to turn red everytime I do a home remedy from now on? Or is it a temporary thing? I'm soooo worried and regret using the apple cider vinegar. Pleasee help me!!

    • ANSWER:
this is what happens when you believe in stupid home remedies, what part of not using home remedies you do not understand? if you want to have a clean and healthy skin than go and visit a dermatologist or use some good creams from ponds, clean & clear, aloe vera, neutrogena etc. home remedies are all fake!!!!! just because they are natural doesn´t mean that is going to help you to have a soft skin. you need to use products that are made by scientifics, dermatologists! not fake home remedies. our skin it´s a very delicated part of the body that covers our body, meat etc. don´t do that anymore. take this advice from me, because i have so many friends that they used home remedies to take their acne out and other stuffs and all they had was a worst skin than ever. now you need to wash your face with cold water every single day! do not use anything else, only cold water. until your redness goes off. good luck! =)

  43. QUESTION:
    Best and Fast Acne cure?
I'm taking accutane and I'm getting dry skin/ dry lips, all the fun stuff.

I'm just starting my 3rd month and its cleared up a lot of my forehead and for some reason, 1 side of my face.. the other side is "clearing" but its still not very good. they aren't deep cysts, only red pimples all over.

In addition, my face is pretty red all over just from having the pimples there. The dermatologist told me not to take any pills while taking acutane, so I'm not sure if that means vitamins as well?

I have prom in a week and I'd really appreciate it if I could get some help here..

1st - I've heard about all the cucumber paste, tomato, basil, tooth paste (I've heard it doesn't work) and a lot of other natural paths, but what is the simplest home remedy that has for sure worked for you? How long did you do it and what were the effects? (reduce redness, swelling, clear acne, etc.)

2nd - Should I take vitamins while taking acutane? And if so, what type of vitamins are best for clear skin?

3rd - I read that milk and those products can be bad for your skin, yet I also read yogurts are extremely healthy for your skin - what is your knowledge on this?

4th - I use a moisturizer that is for sensitive skin since my skin is dry from the accutane. I don't need ProActive or suggestions like these please.

I need natural remedies, help on vitamins, information like this. Long term would be helpful, and especially things that will help by next Saturday would be the best.

(Also, I have a normal eating diet, probably less fatty than most, and I drink little to no pop. I don't sleep on a certain side of my face and I change pillow/sheets often.)

I need to reduce redness and clear up my face. Please help, and thank you.

    • ANSWER:
For [preventing] acne Benzoyl peroxide, 2%, 5% or 10% or w/e with oil-free moisturizer (use after the bp has dried up), bee propolis powder (also apparently speeds up healing redness) and occasionally some AHA or whatever acids - but i'd get a breakout sometimes after them. For redness i use vitamin k oxyde cream - it gets worse for about 20 seconds then it's okay.
I do get acne after eating a cereal/ drinking milk... but i got told by my doctor that the diet has no impact on acne, so not sure..
I also took garlic, twice a day, a bit better than with the odorless garlic tablets.

Make sure you test some of these products before you use them...

    • ANSWER:
There are home remedies for acne that can help you a lot. Here are a few things that you can do.

#1. Drink large quantities of green tea. Green tea is a natural anti-oxident and will help to clean your body out naturally. An excellent herbal remedy that works!

#2. Drink a lot of water. This is just good sense anyway as it helps to flush all of the nasty toxins that build up in our bodies and cause us all sorts of grief and discomfort, especially with all of the convenient, processed junk that we eat these days.

#3. Do you want a really good tip for cleansing your body? Try fasting one day per week. This has been proven time and again to be a super help for body cleansing. Drink lots of water and pee freely. Get that poison out of your system!

#4. Make major changes in your eating habits. See above. Fresh fruits and vegetables are excellent and will also help you to maintain a healthy body weight. Especially focus on citrus fruits such as lemons, oranges, limes and grapefruit.

#5. Strawberries and strawberry leaves are helpful in getting rid of acne.

#6. Exercising will help you to rid your body of toxins and boost your metabolism. Sweat that garbage out and you'll not only begin to look better, but feel better as well.

There are many myths associated with the causes of acne. There are also many home remedies for acne cures.

    • ANSWER:
I can almost guarentee you that 2.5% benzyl peroxide cream will work.

Have a look on http://www.acne.org/ for a clean skin regimen that will take you through how to use it - it even gives instructions for the ladies who want to wear make up over it.
the cream is not very expensive about a few pounds for a few months supply. Also get some clearasil to wash your face at night with.

IMPORTANT - I found changing my pillow cover often helps a lot.

A dermatologist however can give you much more effective treatments like roaccutane which I went on but it has many side effects.

There is lots of information on the website that will help you.
I really hope you find a solution

Toothpaste can work - just put a blob on each spot & it should reduce them.

Put an ice cube on them to calm them down.
Do not squeeze em!! Will make them worse

      Good luck :) x

Is there something natural? or perhaps a home remedy to minimize or eliminate this skin condition? i know someone who swears that she has used preparation h on her face and it reduced the redness. any suggestions out there??

    • ANSWER:
You can try Florasone, which is a homeopathic cream that smells and has the same texture as the prescription strength cortisone cream. The active ingredient is Cardiospermum, which is a plant effective in minimizing eczema and rashes. Best of all, it does not contain any steroids that prescription strength cortisone creams do

According to the package, "Florasone is the first natural alternative to cortisone creams and ointments to be introduced in the United States. It contains 10% tincture of Cardiospermum, a flowering tropical vine that has been used as a medicine in India & Africa for centuries. Brought into modern medicine by one of our sister companies in Europe, Florasone has been prescribed by European skin specialists & family doctors for years."

    • ANSWER:
Here's something that's been working for me quite nicely (and I have some pretty bad acne, haha):

Wash your face with warm/hot water. Dry. Spread a thin layer of honey all over your face. leave on for at least an hour (it can be a little messy, but not much). Rinse gently off with warm/hot water. pat dry. DO NOT PUT ANYTHING ON IT AFTERWARDS FOR AT LEAST 20 MINUTES so that it can fully dry, set in, etc. Do NOT put on moisturizer for at least an hour... you WONT need it.

You can also do this for trouble spots, like that pimple

I'm 15 and I have the same problem. I went to a doctor (skin specialist) and he ordered me pills (Minaxen) for about 4 months. It's already getting better after just 1 month (2 per day). I also use Effaclar to remove excessive oils from my face ( once per day). I use differin (ointment) before I go to sleep so my spots will dry up. A doctor may also help you.
      Hope it helps :)
